Alpha Input vs. Numeric Input for CODES
If it were possible to have the system auto generate alpha strings (rather than numeric ones), students wouldn't have to switch their phones into numeric mode, e.g. 123, which could save them as many as 2 clicks per transaction, and would speed up the process.

Hi Zack! Thanks for the suggestion. As you can imagine we've experimented with a purely alphabetical default keywords; however, for people without a QWERTY keyboard on their phone, it can take a lot more "clicks" than a pure numeric keyword. True, you have to "switch modes"; however, once you switch into the numeric mode we've found its much faster to submit a response than playing around with technology like T9Word (the method where you "click" on 1 three times to get the letter C).
At some point in the near future, QWERTY keyboard phones will inevitably replace 0-9 dial-pad phones at which point we'll consider switching our default keywords over to alphabetical keywords.
