I would like to create a multiple choice question with an option "other, please specify"
For example,
Where do you live?
a) London, Ontario
b) Strathroy, Ontario
c) Woodstock, Ontario
d) Other, please specify
Therefore, I would like to set up a multiple choice AND open ended response in the same question.
This is currently possible by creating two separate polls and then writing your own instructions (on a slide or handout for example).
Combining two on the same visual chart would be interesting. Any ideas/concepts on what that would look like?

Being able to add an "Other" response to Multiple Choice questions with the ability to provide a written response would be very useful for data collection purposes for my company when developing a survey. It would support us to know where information is coming from and if we are missing key indicators in our survey.
One possibility of how this could be done on a live results chart would be to only show the other in a chart, with the option to show responses below or on a separate screen in a format similar to the open text questions. I can't speak for all but this would work for my purpose.

I'd find this really useful too -- on a Live Results chart, it would be particularly useful if the "Other" that is entered became a new answer choice, plotted on the same chart, which other students could then choose to select also. (A little like the "audience favourite" style poll.)

That's the part I'm curious about. SurveyMonkey doesn't have a live results chart that I know of. (Which makes sense, as they're a much different product.)
So, I'm wondering what that would look like on the live results chart!

Steve, I don't have an easy way of showing you what this would look like, but I can say that this is an option in SurveyMonkey. Now, SurveyMonkey, last I used them, did not have a way to use cellphones to answer a survey, but the synergy between SurveyMonkey and PollEverywhere would be awesome.
