Let the users send photo responses to a poll.
For example, during an icebreaker poll have them send a photo of their pet
It really is a great idea and I wish we could. Ultimately, we just do not want to open the can of worms that it would take to host/display live images sent from the audience. There’s just no telling what certain people may think is funny to submit as a picture. And, no censorship or moderation filter will ever be quite enough.
In the meantime, I would definitely recommend you use pictures and even gifs on polls. Either as the background image, answer choices for multiple choice, or our clickable image polls.
Please post if you have any other ideas or if we can help you with anything else though!

Does the same concern not apply to what people are able to write?? I’m confused how this is different.

Hi, my suggestion was to allow students to draw images. For example organic molecules or structures during a chemistry lesson or the shape a line would take on a graph.

Hi, we use Poll Everywhere at my school and it has revolutionised the way we receive live feedback from students.
However, we a desperate for an activity that allows them to draw a diagram and provide it a feedback and not just feedback with words.
Is this something that could be added?

I would again like to express my support for this idea. I honestly do not understand the reluctance of the PE team to implement this feature. After all, PE is simply a tool: it is up to the instructor to determine what is or is not appropriate. Please trust and empower instructors to determine how to teach their class. Thanks.

I propose that the new poll type that allows the audience to respond with an image or drawing.
Presenter-configurable option could specify sources of response images: (a) drawn directly into the app using mouse or finger or (b) uploaded from a file on the audience's device or (c) select URL of image from the web or (d) capture image with device camera. Presenter could potentially also control drawing methods, such as whether the respondents can select multiple colors from a palette or if they are restricted to b/w answers only.
This type of poll is a great substitute for in-person questions of the type "draw your answer on the whiteboard." Essentially you're providing attendees with their own private whiteboard. I think the option to draw directly in the app is more important that the option to upload an external image.
This type of poll is probably incompatible with SMS polls.
Typical use case: I want students to be able to design an electrical circuit in response to a prompt. The answers will be circuit diagrams.
Another use case: I want students to design a network configuration that can withstand N network partition. The answers will be network diagrams.
Further use case: prompts of the form "draw your favorite animal," "arrange the triangles into a tetrahedron," etc.

This idea is similar to one titled "Ability to submit an image as a response to an open ended poll question"
As an Adjunct math professor for entry-level courses at the University level I often ask students to plot points on graphs, show me the shape of curves, etc., and I'm looking for a mechanism that would permit them to efficiently get those responses to me very quickly.
Here's what I propose:
- For the Student
- allow students to respond to open-ended questions with a) photos and b) gif/png files
- From a computer or from an application on a mobile/tablet
- In the row where students can "Enter a response"
- add a button to insert a gif/png using File explorer (or equivalent) and/or
- launch the webcam and allow users to take a photograph of their written response.
- The photo is automatically attached as a gif/png
- Once the photo or gif/ping has been selected, the student can submit it with the Submit button- For the Teacher
- no changes needed when creating poll, the above feature is part of the open-ended question poll type
- When looking as student responses, show a hyperlinked thumbnail of the photo/gif/png in the Response Column
- the Teacher can click on the thumbnail to look at the photo/gif/png in full size -

Due to Covid-19 we'll no longer be able to use whiteboards in the classroom. And I can't afford to buy expos and a whiteboard for all 150 students individually! If I could ask a question out loud (or written) and students could draw in their answer we could mimic white boards. It would be nice to have a grid style view of all their answers to project on the screen so I can quickly review with students.

Participants have a task, e.g. draw diagram / brainstorm on whiteboard etc, then can submit all to poll to display

I want my students to submit memes about what we have been learning. This is a huge disappointment to me that this feature does not exist on this platform. I am moving on to find a platform that CAN do this.

i have a need for this feature. I'm facilitating a vision session and I want participants to submit vision snapshots. I don't see why the moderation challenge is any different than the open text messages.

I agree with this comment. It would be great to allow students to take pictures of their work and send it to the Powerpoint for the entire class to see.

This is too bad - I don't see why the photos could not be moderated, in the same way the instructor can already screen for profanity in text-based responses. This would be very useful to allow students to upload photos. I would like students to be able to write/draw on paper in class and upload a photo of it in response to an activity.

Yes, as a math teacher, I think it would be great if students could submit photos as their answers!

I have had a number of tutors request a submit the ability for 'participant upload an image' to poll which could be displayed as a tiled wall or slideshow. We look forward to seeing how this develops.

upload/vote on end-user images via URLs (real-time rendering of the URL in the text response to display images from end-users)

Okay, have a function where students can take a photo and attach it to their response. The photo shows up on the display, just like an answer. This would be a great tool for us teachers. Students would be able to find key quotes and send them to the board. Also, teachers could have students send pictures of small samples of their work. I could really us this function.

Some creative response features such as having participants draw, move objects, post pictures, etc.

These features are ones which faculty at our campus are choosing Learning Catalytics over Poll Everywhere. So, these options would be a big enhancement to a great platform such as Poll Everywhere.

I would like gesture inputs to answer questions or drawing features using a touch device. This is need in teaching a lot of STEM courses, where formulas and symbols are entered. Being able to draw in answers would be more time efficient. I would also add peer instruction through group management and question answering. Have a first round as individual answers, then have a second round where PollEverywhere breaks students up into groups, students debate the correct answer, then submit a group answer. Such functionality would address an educational environment much more than say a business one, but it would be great to have this feature to compete with another great product Learning Catalytics.
